On 23 December 2022, the British government and the Italian government signed an agreement for exchanging driving licences. After its entry into force, UK citizens residing in Italy will be able to exchange their UK licence for an Italian one without the need to take a test.
The agreement also makes provision for exchange of expired licences for up to 5 years after their date of expiry as well as lost and stolen licences, subject to domestic procedures.
