Following a circular from the Ministry of the Interior and a clarification from the Milan Public Prosecutor, the Municipality of Milan stopped the registration of children born in Italy to same-sex couples, except in the case of children born abroad from two mothers.
The matter was immediately examined by the European Parliament which, with the resolution of 30 March 2023 has condemned the instructions addressed by the Italian government to the administration, considering that this decision constitutes a direct violation of the rights of minors, inevitably leading to discrimination not only of same-sex couples but especially of their children.
