Temporary Border Controls introduced: In preparation for the upcoming G7 Leaders’ Summit taking place in Borgo Egnazia (Puglia, Italy) from June 13-15, Italy will temporarily reinstate border controls at all its land, sea, and air entry points. This measure, in line with standard practice for similar high-level events, will be enacted under Articles 25 and 27 of the EU’s 2016 Schengen Borders Code.
The temporary suspension of free movement will be in effect from 2:00 PM on June 5 until 2:00 PM on June 18, 2024.
This will allow Italian authorities to implement necessary security and logistical arrangements for the safe and smooth running of the G7 Summit.
