The latest quarterly report on the Italia Startup Visa program is now online and highlights the main findings up to June 30, 2019.
The Italia Startup Visa (ISV) program ( italiastartupvisa.mise.gov.it ) was launched by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development on 24 June 2014 aimed to non-EU entrepreneurs intending to relocate to Italy to set up an innovative start-up business or to join an already established startup company.
The ISV program guarantees a streamlined application procedure, with an online clearance application and the issuance of a start-up visa (visto lavoro autonomo start up) and residence permit under the fast-track procedure.
Up until June 30, 2019, the ISV program received 454 applications from 49 different countries. The first country by the highest number of applicants was Russia with 92 applicants. China was second with 85 applicants.
232 candidates (51.1%) received positive results from the Italia Startup Visa Technical Committee and successfully obtained clearances (Nulla Osta). Amongst these, 23 applicants voluntarily changed their plans about moving to Italy. As a result, there are currently 209 potential startup visa holders on the records. Moreover, 16 applications are still under evaluation.
The applicants who received a positive evaluation are comparatively young (36.3 years old on average) and highly qualified: 92.2% of applicants hold a higher educational degree, IT and in particular various branches of engineering. Rather common are also economics and business studies (e.g. marketing, business administration), design, and to a lesser extent also humanities and social science (e.g. international relations).
